Madison Healthcare Services is a healthcare complex located at 900 Second Avenue in Madison offering a wide variety of services for people of all ages including a hospital, clinic, care center, and Hilltop Residence facilities.  Our healthcare campus includes a 65-bed skilled nursing facility, a 12-bed critical access hospital, home care services, fully staffed medical clinic, secure 36-unit independent living apartment building, and therapy services provided by Big Stone Therapies.

Schedule: 56 hours/pay period (every two weeks). Cardiac Rehab – Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings to early afternoons.  Hospital RN – every third weekend and rotating holidays.

Position Summary: Monitors patients during exercise sessions. Nursing responsibilities focus on the preventive and restorative healthcare needs of the cardiovascular patient. Provides patient education on disease entities, cardiac risk factors, behavior modification. The Registered Nurse (RN) organizes the provision of nursing care to patients through the process of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Cardiac/Rehab:
    • Monitor EKG during patient exercise sessions
    • Assess plans & evaluate patient care needs
    • Teach stretches/warm up exercises & free hand weights
    • Assist patients with cardio & resistance equipment for safe exercise
    • Review and update patient’s exercise prescription as needed
    • Teach patients about personal risk factors for CAD & modification strategies
    • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate
  • Hospital RN:
    • Provides direct patient care according to plan of care, medical protocols as delegated, and standards of care
    • Educates patients and families to meet identifiable outcomes and evaluates outcomes
    • Develops, documents, and updates a nursing plan of care involving patient/family and members of the healthcare team
    • Communicates and confers with team members through the shift to ensure optimal patient care. Fosters an environment where communication is encouraged and welcomed

Education/Experience: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing
  • Active, Current Minnesota RN License
  • Current BLS and ACLS Certifications
  • Previous Cardiac Rehab experience preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current principles and techniques of nursing practice
  • Ability to function as a team leader, to accept individual responsibility and accountability for decisions and outcomes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, personnel and physicians
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Recognizes the legal limits of nursing practice
  • Maintains professional competency through continuing education and independent study
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public
